چکیده
Abstract Additive manufacturing enables the fabrication of strut-based lattices that consist periodic representative volume elements (RVE) and can be used as cores in sandwich panels. Due to design freedom provided by additive manufacturing, lattice strut diameter may vary through lattice. Thus, distribution adapted stress variation core achieve an efficient avoid oversizing core. Such grading approaches are required when is subjected localized loads, e.g., near support points load application areas. In this work, analytical model derived determine stresses deformations struts RVE-based graded elastic panels using homogenization dehomogenization methods. contrast already available models, presented work allows both along length thickness. Furthermore, local caused concentrated captured adequately present model. To highlight benefits cores, compared homogeneous cores.

Shear and bending performance of carbon fiber composite sandwich panels with pyramidal truss cores
Structural performance in direct (pure) shear and three-point bending was investigated for sandwich panels with a carbon fiber pyramidal truss core. Analytical estimates for sandwich panel strength for each loading condition were presented for possible competing failure modes. In the experimental part of the study, pyramidal truss cores were made using the hot press molding technique and then a...
متن کاملA protocol for characterizing the structural performance of metallic sandwich panels: application to pyramidal truss cores
All-metallic sandwich panels with truss and prismatic cores have impending application as ultra-light load bearing panels amenable to simultaneous active cooling and blast resistance. To facilitate application, a protocol for characterizing the structural performance of such panels is needed that can be used for design calculations. An approach capable of realizing this objective is presented a...
متن کاملDesign of Sandwich Panels With Prismatic Cores
The paper focuses on optimization of lightweight sandwich panels with prismatic cores subject to bending loads in the two principal in-plane directions. Comparisons are made with optimal designs of panels with corrugated cores: a limiting case. When optimized for loading transverse to the prism axis, prismatic panels outperform those with corrugated cores, especially at lower loads. In contrast...
متن کاملStructurally optimized sandwich panels with prismatic cores
Multifunctional sandwich panels with corrugated and prismatic diamond cores have been analyzed and their behavior compared with panels designed using truss and honeycomb cores. Failure mechanism maps have been devised that account for interactions between core and face members during buckling. The optimal dimensions and the minimum weight have been evaluated. The load capacities predicted for n...
متن کاملStructural performance of metallic sandwich beams with hollow truss cores
The article focuses on the structural performance of sandwich beams with hollow truss lattice cores made from a ductile stainless steel. The trusses are arranged in an orthogonal (cross-ply) configuration, in either ±45 (diamond) or 0 /90 (square) orientations with respect to the face sheets. The responses in shear, tension and compression, as well as simply supported and fully clamped bending,...
